Saba Italia

Saba Italia – Italian Furniture Designed Around the Way We Live

Saba Italia approaches furniture as more than a collection of objects. Sofas, armchairs, tables and occasional furniture are designed around the changing ways people relax, gather, work and live within a space.

The result is an Italian furniture collection characterised by soft forms, expressive colour, generous upholstery and an emphasis on flexibility, allowing individual pieces to feel visually distinctive without losing sight of everyday comfort.

Founded in Italy in 1987

Saba was founded by Amelia Pegorin in 1987 in the province of Padua, Italy.

From the beginning, the company has taken a human-centred approach to furniture design, combining comfort and practical function with a more emotional and poetic understanding of the objects people choose to live with.

Freedom, Poetry and Memory

Saba describes its design philosophy through three principles: Freedom, Poetry and Memory.

Freedom can be seen in modular and adaptable furniture that can respond to different layouts. Poetry appears through colour, curved forms and unexpected details, while Memory reflects the idea that furniture should remain meaningful and relevant over time rather than being created around short-lived trends.

Saba's Approach to Emotional Ergonomics

Saba describes its current design research as “Emotional ergonomics” – an exploration of furniture that supports the body while also creating an emotional connection through form, material and colour.

That balance helps explain why many Saba designs feel unusually expressive without sacrificing the practical considerations of seating comfort, proportions and everyday use.

Saba Italia Sofas

Sofas sit at the heart of the Saba collection, ranging from compact linear designs to generous modular seating systems that can be configured around a particular room.

The RB12 collection includes established designs such as the Pixel Sofa, New York Sofa and Vela Sofa alongside modular systems including Pixel and Metis, and more sculptural seating such as Oltremare and Simposio.

The Saba Pixel Sofa

Designed by Sergio Bicego, Pixel has become one of Saba's most recognisable modular sofa systems.

Individual seating elements can be freely combined using Saba's dedicated connector system, while the armrests and backrests can be removed from the base to create different arrangements as the room or way of living changes.

The compact proportions of the back and arm elements allow Pixel to create generous seating without unnecessarily increasing the overall depth of the sofa.

The New York Collection

The Saba New York collection, also designed by Sergio Bicego, combines soft quilted upholstery with a slender metal frame for a design that references traditional upholstered furniture while remaining distinctly contemporary.

At RB12, the New York family extends beyond the sofa into armchairs, dining chairs, stools and smaller seating, making it possible to repeat the same design language across adjoining living and dining spaces.

Sculptural Armchairs and Small Sofas

Saba's armchair collection demonstrates the more expressive side of the brand, moving between softly upholstered lounge seating, graphic metal frames and curved sculptural silhouettes.

The RB12 range includes designs such as the Oltremare, Bustier, Amelie, Chillout, Geo, Sunset, New York Curve, New York Line, Fleur, Pan Flute and Anam armchairs, together with compact seating including Geo, Kepi and Philo small sofas.

The Oltremare Collection

Created in collaboration with Italian designer Antonio Marras, Oltremare moves away from conventional rectangular sofa geometry in favour of asymmetric curves and enveloping upholstered forms.

The collection includes sofas, an armchair and a bench, each exploring the relationship between curved lines and the act of sitting. The result combines a sense of nostalgia with a much more contemporary sculptural presence.

Saba Italia Dining Tables

Saba's expressive approach extends naturally into dining furniture, where bases, colour and proportion often become as important as the tabletop itself.

The RB12 selection includes the sculptural Teatro Magico Table by 967arch alongside the Anam Table and a wider collection of dining and occasional furniture.

The Saba Italia Teatro Magico Table is available in both round and generous oval formats, with a choice of lacquered, glass and marble finishes.

Coffee Tables, Side Tables and Consoles

Saba's smaller furniture pieces carry the same emphasis on sculptural form and distinctive materials found throughout the seating collection.

At RB12, the range includes Teatro Magico low and side tables, Butter, Hexa, Philia, Ring and Tres tables, together with consoles and storage pieces including Hexa and Anam.

These pieces work naturally alongside Saba seating but are equally effective as individual accent pieces within interiors furnished across several brands.

Dining Chairs and Stools

The Saba chair and stool collection brings the brand's softer approach to upholstery into dining and occasional seating.

RB12 offers designs including New York, Ola, Isabelle and Petite Fleur chairs, together with coordinated stools from the New York, Ola and Isabelle families.

This allows dining spaces to share the same visual language as a Saba living room without requiring the furniture to be matched too rigidly.

Designed in Collaboration

Collaboration plays an important role in Saba's identity, with each designer bringing a different interpretation of the brand's approach to comfort, flexibility and expressive form.

Designers represented across Saba's current collection include Sergio Bicego, 967arch, Antonio Marras, Studiopepe, Federico Peri, Serena Confalonieri, Nicola Pavan, Zanellato/Bortotto and others.

That diversity helps explain why the collection can move from the modular geometry of Pixel to the sweeping curves of Oltremare and the sculptural base of Teatro Magico while still retaining a recognisable Saba character.

Customisable Fabrics, Finishes and Configurations

Many Saba designs are offered in a broad choice of fabrics, colours and configurations, allowing the final piece to be specified around the room rather than selected as a single fixed product.

Several of Saba's best-known upholstered designs, including Pixel, New York and Oltremare, also feature fully removable covers, helping make the upholstery easier to maintain or update over time.

Choosing Saba Italia at RB12

Choosing a Saba sofa or modular system often involves more than selecting a single size. Configuration, room dimensions, upholstery, colour and the relationship between individual modules can all influence the finished piece.

The RB12 team can help with layouts, dimensions, fabrics, finishes and product specification, whether you are choosing one piece for your home or working on a larger residential or commercial project.
