A Linear Pendant Designed Around Even Light
The Bolia Scribe Pendant takes a simple elongated form and uses it to spread light evenly across the surface beneath it.
Rather than concentrating the illumination around a single bulb, the integrated LED extends along the underside of the pendant, creating a continuous band of light particularly suited to long tables, kitchen counters and work surfaces.
Designed by Studio Finna
Scribe was designed by Finnish studio Studio Finna, founded by Anni Pitkäjärvi and Hanna-Kaarina Heikkilä.
The pendant continues the studio’s restrained Scribe lighting language in a distinctly linear format, combining a cool architectural silhouette with softer and more comfortable illumination.
Warm 3000K LED Light
Every Scribe Pendant uses an included 3000K LED light source, creating a warm white light suited to dining areas, kitchens and home workspaces.
The light source is positioned within the slim shade so the complete underside is illuminated, helping create a softer and more consistent spread of light along the surface below.
Three Lengths at RB12
RB12 offers Scribe in three lengths, allowing the scale of the pendant to be selected around the furniture beneath it.
- 70 cm: ideal for smaller dining tables, desks and compact kitchen islands
- 130 cm: a versatile size for larger dining tables and kitchen counters
- 170 cm: designed to follow longer dining tables, islands and substantial work surfaces
All three sizes share the same slim 8 cm width and approximately 17 cm height, so the visual character remains consistent as the length increases.
Light Output Increases with Size
The LED output changes with the length of the pendant, ensuring the larger Scribe models provide more light across their extended illuminated surface.
- 70 cm: approximately 2,174 lumens
- 130 cm: approximately 3,529 lumens
- 170 cm: approximately 4,909 lumens
This makes the choice of size about more than proportion alone, with the longer pendants also providing greater overall light output.
Above a Dining Table
Scribe is particularly effective above rectangular dining tables because its linear form follows the shape of the furniture rather than concentrating the light around the centre.
The 130 cm and 170 cm versions can create a strong visual relationship with longer tables while distributing light across a much broader section of the dining surface.
Lighting for a Kitchen Island
The same proportions make Scribe a natural choice above a kitchen island or breakfast counter.
A single linear pendant creates a cleaner alternative to several smaller hanging lights while providing continuous illumination along the working surface below.
Create an Angular Lighting Composition
Bolia also designed the Scribe Pendant to work in grouped arrangements.
Combining different lengths and suspending them at contrasting angles can turn the simple linear form into a larger architectural composition, particularly in open spaces, stairwells and rooms with generous ceiling height.
Matt Creme, Grey or Black
RB12 offers Scribe in Matt Creme Painted Iron, Matt Grey Painted Iron and Matt Black Painted Iron.
Creme creates the softest visual effect, Grey provides a restrained architectural neutral, while Black gives the long horizontal silhouette greater definition against lighter walls and ceilings.
A Slim Painted-Iron Shade
The pendant is constructed from painted iron, creating the precise rectangular form that defines the Scribe design.
At only 8 cm wide, the shade remains visually slim even in the longest 170 cm format, allowing it to span substantial furniture without appearing bulky.
A Replaceable LED Light Source
The LED is included and has a specified operating life of approximately 30,000 hours.
Importantly, Bolia confirms that the light source can be replaced, allowing the pendant itself to remain in use when the LED eventually reaches the end of its working life.
3 Metre Textile Suspension
Each Scribe Pendant is supplied with a 3 metre textile cord, giving useful flexibility when setting the height of the lamp above a table, island or workspace.
The cord and ceiling fitting are coordinated with the selected finish, maintaining the restrained visual language of the pendant from ceiling to shade.
