A Hand-Hammered Brass Pendant Light
The Gervasoni Brass Pendant Light uses one simple material to create an unusually expressive suspended form. A broad sheet of brass is shaped into a gently curved disc, allowing the warm metallic surface itself to become the defining feature of the light.
Rather than enclosing the light source within a conventional shade, Brass appears to float beneath its suspension. Light catches the irregular hand-worked surface, producing changing golden reflections across the metal and surrounding interior.

Brass was designed for Gervasoni by Paola Navone. The design takes advantage of the ductility of brass, using a relatively thin metallic surface to create the impression of something both sculptural and unexpectedly light.
Its visual impact comes almost entirely from material, curvature and reflection. There are no unnecessary decorative elements competing with the form, allowing the brass surface to remain the focus whether the lamp is switched on or off.
Brass 95 or Brass 96?
RB12 offers both versions of the Gervasoni Brass suspension lamp. They share the same material and design principle, but the difference in scale and curvature gives each version a noticeably different presence.

Brass 95 has the shallower profile of the two. Its broad disc bends only gently, making it particularly effective where you want the warmth and texture of brass without introducing a deep pendant form into the room.
Brass 96 develops the same idea on a much more dramatic scale. Its deeper curvature gives the pendant considerably more sculptural presence, making it especially suited to larger rooms, dining areas and interiors where the lighting itself needs to become a focal point.

The Character of Hand-Hammered Brass
The Brass Pendant is completely handcrafted. As the metal is hammered and shaped, small superficial marks, scratches and creases may remain visible across the surface.
Gervasoni specifically describes these irregularities as characteristics of the manufacturing process rather than defects. They are part of what separates Brass from a perfectly uniform machine-formed metal shade.
The brass itself is finished with a matt transparent coating, allowing the colour, texture and reflected light of the underlying material to remain visually prominent.
Warm Golden Light and Reflection
Brass changes character throughout the day. In natural light, its broad metallic surface introduces warmth and subtle reflection into the room. Once illuminated, those qualities become more pronounced as the hand-worked brass catches the light across its irregular surface.
The result is less about producing a completely even pool of light and more about using reflection, shadow and metallic warmth to build atmosphere around the fitting.
Use One Pendant or Create a Larger Composition
Gervasoni designed Brass to work both individually and in groups. A single pendant gives the curved metallic disc enough space to read clearly as a sculptural object.
For larger spaces, multiple Brass pendants can be suspended together at different heights. Mixing Brass 95 and Brass 96 introduces different levels of curvature into the composition while maintaining one consistent material.
This approach can work particularly well in double-height spaces, larger dining rooms, entrance areas or hospitality interiors where one fitting would otherwise feel underscaled.
A Statement Pendant for Dining Tables
The wide proportions of Brass make it a natural partner for a dining table. Rather than creating a narrow point of light directly above the centre, the broad brass surface extends across more of the visual width of the dining area.
Brass 95 works particularly well where ceiling height is more limited because of its relatively shallow 18 cm profile, while Brass 96 creates greater vertical drama where the room can accommodate its deeper 42 cm form.
Brass Pendant Lighting for Kitchen Islands
Brass can also create a strong focal point above a kitchen island, particularly in interiors where the surrounding cabinetry and worktops use more restrained colours and materials.
Its warm metallic surface pairs naturally with stone, timber, darker cabinetry and neutral finishes, adding contrast without introducing an additional bright colour into the scheme.
For a longer island, a pair of pendants or a carefully planned combination of Brass 95 and 96 can create a more dramatic suspended installation.

Gervasoni specifies an E27 lamp holder with a maximum light-source power of 18W. The bulb is not included, allowing the final lamp specification to be selected separately.

Natural Oxidation and Material Ageing
Brass is a material that can continue to change with time. Gervasoni notes that small stains may gradually appear as a result of natural oxidation of the metal.
These changes are not considered defects. Together with the marks created through hand hammering, they contribute to the individual appearance of the pendant and mean that one Brass light should not be expected to look perfectly identical to another.

Care
Gervasoni notes that small areas of oxidation may naturally develop on the brass over time. These changes are characteristics of the material rather than product defects.
Likewise, superficial marks, scratches and creases can result from the hand-hammering process and form part of the intended appearance of the Brass collection. Gervasoni does not provide a specific cleaning method in the current technical specification, so additional cleaning treatments should not be assumed from this description.
