Bevi is a rug that reveals itself slowly. Its surface is built from three different weave bindings, and long, three-dimensional pile sections emerge across it. Pattern and depth shift with the light and the angle you view it from. It is designed by Ervin Latimer, whose background in fashion design runs through his textile work.

The pattern and its framing are a Nordic interpretation of traditional textiles and motifs from West Africa and the western regions of southern Africa. Latimer describes it as an attempt to create a new, contemporary expression of Afro-Finnish identity through textile art.

Bevi is hand-knotted from high-quality wool and handmade in India by Finarte’s long-term weaving partners. Use it on the floor, or hang it on the wall as a piece of textile art. It is made in brown in two sizes, 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm.

Description

A rug that reveals itself slowly

The Bevi Wool Rug by Finarte is built through three distinct weave bindings. Each one adds to a quiet complexity that shows itself gradually. It is a rug that invites you to pause, look closely and experience the texture with bare hands and bare feet.

Three-dimensional long-pile sections rise across the surface, creating movement and depth that shift with the light and the angle you view it from.

Hand-knotted wool

Bevi is a hand-knotted rug made from high-quality wool. It is handmade in India by Finarte’s long-term weaving partners.

Designed by Ervin Latimer

Bevi was designed by Ervin Latimer, who trained as a fashion designer before working in textiles. In his work the boundary between clothing and textile art has always been fluid, and that shows in the way Bevi is built: a surface designed to be felt as much as seen.

A Nordic reading of West and southern African textiles

The pattern and its framing structure are a Nordic interpretation of traditional textiles and motifs from West Africa and the western regions of southern Africa. Latimer describes it as an attempt to create a new, contemporary expression of Afro-Finnish identity through textile art.

A rug or a wall hanging

Finarte designed Bevi to work equally well on the floor or on the wall. As a rug it anchors a living area, bedroom or dining space. Hung up, it becomes a large piece of textile art.

Bevi sizes

Bevi is made in brown in two sizes:

  • 170 x 240 cm: suits a seating area or the space beside a bed
  • 200 x 300 cm: a large rug for a living or dining space

Bevi or Tobevi?

Ervin Latimer also designed the Finarte Tobevi Wool Rug. Tobevi is hand-tufted and combines a textured loop-pile centre with a cut-pile border, in cobalt blue and forest green. Bevi is hand-knotted and relies on layered weave bindings and long-pile sections for its depth. Browse more designer rugs or the full Finarte collection.
