Contemporary Croatian Lighting by Grupa

Grupa is a Croatian design studio and lighting manufacturer known for combining minimalist forms with highly considered functionality. Founded in Zagreb in 2006 by designers Filip Despot, Ivana Pavić and Tihana Taraba, the studio initially worked across product and interior design before beginning production of its own lighting collection in 2012.

Rather than separating design from manufacture, Grupa controls both sides of the process. This allows construction, materials, light quality and usability to develop together, resulting in lamps that feel visually simple while often hiding sophisticated details within their structure.

Designed and Made in Croatia

Grupa designs, manufactures and assembles its own lighting in Croatia. Much of the production takes place through a Croatian lighting factory with a manufacturing history dating back to 1960, combining established metalworking techniques with contemporary design and production.

Each finished piece passes through skilled hands during bending, painting, assembly and quality control. Grupa also individually inspects its products before they leave production, reinforcing the studio's preference for carefully controlled manufacturing rather than anonymous mass production.

Grupa Arigato Lighting

Arigato is one of Grupa's best-known lighting collections. Its name and form reference the gesture of a person bowing, creating a distinctive silhouette built around slim arms and rounded shades.

Hidden joints allow the lamps to be repositioned while keeping the mechanism visually clean. The collection extends across wall, ceiling, table, floor and pendant lighting, making it possible to carry the same design language through different areas of an interior.

Igram: Lighting Designed Around Everyday Life

Igram roughly translates as “I play” in Croatian, reflecting a collection designed around interaction, movement and flexibility. Its clean graphic lines are combined with adjustable light sources and tactile controls, allowing the user to shape both the position and atmosphere of the light.

The collection includes wall lighting, portable lamps and the distinctive Igram Lamp + Table, which combines lighting and a useful surface within one compact piece of furniture.

Okolo: Soft Light and Visual Lightness

The Okolo collection explores the contrast between delicate visual lightness and a precisely engineered structure. Slim aluminium elements support translucent textile shades, creating lamps that appear almost suspended within the room.

The textile shades soften and diffuse the light, making Okolo particularly suited to relaxed living rooms, bedrooms and dining spaces where atmosphere matters as much as illumination.

Ili Ili: Lighting You Can Make Your Own

Ili Ili — meaning “either or” in Croatian — takes a more playful approach. The modular lighting system is built from interchangeable aluminium elements that can be combined in different shapes and colours.

Different forms can be mixed to create anything from simple monochrome pendants to more expressive multi-coloured compositions. The individual aluminium elements are powder coated in a range of matte colours, allowing Ili Ili to become either a subtle part of the room or a deliberate visual accent.

The modular concept makes Ili Ili particularly effective above dining tables, kitchen islands and hospitality spaces, where several pendants can also be grouped together into larger lighting installations.

Onda: Hand-Blown Glass and Graduated Colour

The Grupa Onda Pendant Light brings a softer material language to the collection. Crafted from hand-blown glass, its familiar rounded silhouette is transformed by a graduated surface that moves from deeper colour towards a soft white base.

When illuminated, the glass creates a rich focused glow. Used individually, Onda works as a sculptural pendant; grouped together, multiple lights can create a more expressive composition over a dining table, staircase or larger open space.

What connects Grupa's collections is not one fixed visual style, but a consistent relationship between light, movement and function.
