“Sunao” is the Japanese word for honesty, and the Sunao Vase follows that idea through: a clean, unfussy ceramic form with nothing added for show. It is part of the Sunao range from 101 Copenhagen, a Danish design brand inspired by Scandinavian roots and Japanese minimalism.
The calm shape suits almost any room, and it holds its own on a table whether or not it contains flowers.
Shaped from casts of shellfish
The Sunao form is made from casts of shellfish found on a beach. That origin is why the outline feels slightly organic rather than perfectly geometric, and why it sits comfortably alongside natural materials such as wood, linen and stone.
Designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl
The vase was designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl for 101 Copenhagen. The same designers created the sculptural Baburu Bowl, which pairs well with the Sunao on a coffee table or console.
Hand-glazed ceramic with a matt finish
The vase is made from ceramic and glazed by hand, which gives each piece a unique matt surface. Because it is handmade, colours may vary slightly, so your vase will not be exactly identical to the product photography.
Made for cut flowers and branches
According to 101 Copenhagen, the inside of the vase is glazed with a waterproof lacquer, so it can be used with water for fresh flowers. The simple, open form suits single stems, loose bunches and branches.

101 Copenhagen suggests a small size as a kitchen vase, a mid-sized one as a dining-table centrepiece, and larger sizes as a large plant pot in the living room.
