A Sculptural LED Pendant Designed to Appear Weightless
The Masiero Vollee S1P Down Suspension Lamp uses a curved painted-metal form to create the impression of something much lighter than the material itself. Rather than enclosing the light within a conventional shade, Vollee turns the structure into the visual focus.
Part of the wider Masiero lighting collection at RB12, Vollee represents the more contemporary side of the Italian brand, combining expressive metalwork with integrated LED technology and a deliberately minimal material palette.
The S1P Down is the downward-facing version of the compact Vollee pendant, making it especially useful where light is required beneath the fitting rather than being directed upwards towards the ceiling.
Designed by Lorenz + Kaz
Vollee was designed by Lorenz + Kaz, the Milan-based studio founded by German designers Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz.
Their work combines northern European restraint with the more expressive material culture of Italy, an approach Masiero describes as a hybrid northern-Italian design language.
That balance is particularly visible in Vollee: the geometry is simple, but the curved form gives the pendant a clear sense of movement and personality.
Inspired by Lightness and Movement
Masiero describes the Vollee collection as an exploration of the lightness and intangible character of illumination, with its metal forms appearing to hover in the room like suspended sails or parachutes.
That idea gives the S1P Down a very different presence from a conventional enclosed pendant shade. The curved metal form appears to float beneath the suspension cable, allowing negative space around the fitting to remain part of the composition.
Painted Metal in Three Finishes
The Vollee S1P Down uses a painted-metal structure and is currently produced by Masiero in three standard finishes:
- Matt White
- Matt Black
- Painted Matt Gold
Matt White gives Vollee its lightest visual expression and allows the silhouette to sit quietly against a pale ceiling or wall. Matt Black gives the curved profile considerably more definition, while Painted Matt Gold introduces a warmer decorative accent without changing the underlying simplicity of the design.
Integrated High-CRI LED Lighting
The S1P Down uses an integrated LED light source rather than a replaceable decorative bulb.

The CRI >90 specification means Vollee is designed to reproduce colours with a high degree of fidelity, an important consideration above dining surfaces, worktops and interiors where finishes and materials are intended to be appreciated accurately.
Compact Dimensions for Flexible Placement
The individual S1P Down element measures:

Its relatively narrow 25 cm width makes Vollee easy to use where a large pendant would overwhelm the surrounding furniture. It also means several fittings can be repeated together without creating the visual mass of a conventional multi-light chandelier.
Use One Vollee or Repeat Several
A single Vollee S1P Down can work as a sculptural accent beside a bed, above a compact table or over a console where its curved outline has enough surrounding space to be appreciated.
For larger surfaces, repeating several Vollee pendants creates a stronger installation while retaining the sense of lightness that defines the collection.
A row of individual S1P Down pendants can work especially well above a long kitchen island or dining table, while staggered suspension heights can create a more decorative composition in a hallway, stairwell or double-height space.
Vollee S1P Down or Vollee S1P Up?
Masiero produces the compact Vollee pendant in both downward and upward-facing versions.
Choose the Vollee S1P Down when you want the integrated light directed towards the surface beneath the pendant, making it the more natural choice above dining tables, kitchen islands and other functional surfaces.
For a softer upward-facing effect, the Masiero Vollee S1P Up Suspension Lamp uses the same 25 × 17.5 × 44 cm painted-metal form but reverses the direction of the light.
Using Up and Down versions together can also create a more varied lighting composition while retaining one consistent design language.
Complete the Masiero Vollee Collection
Vollee extends beyond the individual S1P pendants into larger multi-light compositions designed for dining areas, entrance halls and more substantial architectural spaces.
For a larger statement piece, the Masiero Vollee C5 P Suspension Lamp combines multiple Vollee elements into a more dramatic suspended composition.
The C5 P increases the integrated LED output to 31W and 3900 nominal lumens at 3000K, and unlike the individual S1P Down, the larger composition supports 1-10V, DALI and PUSH dimming control.
This makes the individual S1P Down the more flexible option for smaller-scale installations and repeated arrangements, while the C5 P provides a ready-made Vollee statement for larger spaces.
Vollee for Kitchen Islands and Dining Tables
The combination of downward light and a narrow 25 cm body makes the S1P Down particularly suitable for repeated use over kitchen islands and dining tables.
Rather than using one large central fitting, several smaller Vollee pendants can distribute light along the length of the surface while repeating the same sculptural form.
The spacing and suspension height can then be adjusted to suit the length of the island or table and the ceiling height of the room.
