The Design House Stockholm Fireplace Table Lamp turns the familiar warmth of a glowing hearth into a sculptural light for contemporary interiors. Mouth-blown glass hovers above a base reminiscent of crossed logs, while light escapes through narrow openings in the surrounding structure to cast shifting patterns of brightness and shadow around the room.

Created by HYBE DESIGN TEAM, Fireplace is designed to change as you move around it. The transparent glass catches the warm glow from within, while the slotted form creates the impression of flickering movement despite the lamp itself remaining completely still.

Compact enough for a side table, console or low surface beside a sofa, Fireplace works as both atmospheric lighting and a decorative object. Dim it down for a softer evening glow or use it as a more focused pool of light beside a favourite chair.

Description

A Table Lamp Inspired by the Glow of a Fireplace

The Design House Stockholm Fireplace Table Lamp transforms the atmosphere of a glowing hearth into a compact sculptural light. Rather than taking the conventional form of a lamp base and shade, Fireplace uses glass, metal and controlled openings to create changing patterns of illumination around the room.

Part of the wider Design House Stockholm collection at RB12, Fireplace reflects the Swedish brand’s approach to publishing distinctive design ideas from independent designers rather than following one fixed visual language.

The result is a lamp that remains visually interesting even when switched off and becomes more animated as soon as the light begins interacting with the glass and surrounding structure.

Designed by HYBE DESIGN TEAM

Fireplace was created by HYBE DESIGN TEAM, led by designer and interior architect Jun Takeda.

The idea developed from an interest in the beauty and transparency of everyday glass objects and how that familiar material could be given an entirely different function through light.

The design was first unveiled as part of an installation at Rossana Orlandi Gallery during Salone del Mobile in 2023 before joining the Design House Stockholm collection, where it was officially published in 2025.

Mouth-Blown Glass and Powder-Coated Steel

The Fireplace Lamp combines mouth-blown glass with powder-coated steel and a textile-covered cord.

The glass is suspended upside down over a base that recalls crossed pieces of firewood, creating the visual suggestion of a small contemporary hearth without directly reproducing a traditional fireplace.

The transparent glass also allows the light to remain visible from several directions, giving the lamp greater depth than a completely opaque shade.

Light and Shadow That Change as You Move

One of Fireplace’s most distinctive qualities is the way the light interacts with the slotted surrounding structure.

Narrow openings allow the glow to escape in different directions, producing changing areas of light and shadow across nearby tables, floors, walls and windows.

Because the effect changes as you move around the lamp, Fireplace has a sense of visual movement despite being a completely stationary object. This is what allows it to suggest the flicker and changing character of a real fire without attempting a literal imitation.

Dimmable Light for Changing Atmosphere

The Fireplace Lamp is dimmable, allowing the character of the light to change depending on how the room is being used.

At a lower setting, the lamp becomes a softer atmospheric source for the evening. Increasing the light makes the pattern created by the slotted structure more visible and allows Fireplace to provide more practical illumination beside a sofa or chair.

This flexibility is important because Fireplace is intended to work as both a visual object and a functional source of light rather than being purely decorative.

Fireplace Table Lamp Dimensions

Fireplace has compact proportions that allow it to sit on furniture or lower surfaces without requiring the height of a conventional shaded table lamp.

  • Width: 29.5 cm
  • Depth: 29.5 cm
  • Height: 27 cm
  • Weight: approximately 3.2 kg

At less than 30 cm in each direction, Fireplace is compact enough for side tables and consoles while still having enough scale to work as a standalone sculptural object.

Beside a Sofa or Armchair

Design House Stockholm specifically suggests positioning Fireplace beside a sofa or chair, where the lamp can provide both atmospheric and practical illumination.

Placed on a low side table, its 27 cm height keeps the light close to the seating area and allows the glowing glass and surrounding shadows to remain clearly visible.

It can also be used as a reading light when a more focused source is required, then dimmed again when the priority shifts back to atmosphere.

Use Fireplace as a Sculptural Accent Light

Fireplace does not need to sit beside seating. Its compact form also makes it suitable for a console, cabinet, larger side table or other surface where a conventional lamp and shade might feel overly familiar.

When switched off, the glass and slotted structure remain visible as an object in their own right. When illuminated, the surrounding surface and wall become part of the effect as the light begins to move through the openings.

Designed for Dark Nordic Evenings

Design House Stockholm describes Fireplace as a response to dark Nordic winters and the instinctive association between warm light, fire and gathering together.

Rather than simply producing maximum brightness, the lamp focuses on the atmosphere created by light — reflection through glass, areas of shadow and a warmer visual centre within the room.

This makes Fireplace particularly relevant as part of a layered lighting scheme, where lower lamps create softer pools of light alongside ceiling, pendant or wall lighting.

From Salone del Mobile to Design House Stockholm

Fireplace was first shown within a HYBE DESIGN TEAM installation at Rossana Orlandi Gallery during Salone del Mobile in 2023.

The concept was later developed for Design House Stockholm and officially published in 2025, bringing the experimental installation piece into the brand’s production lighting collection.

That background helps explain why Fireplace feels as much like a small lighting sculpture as a conventional domestic lamp.

Fireplace or the Design House Stockholm Block Lamp?

If you are looking for sculptural lighting from Design House Stockholm, the most natural comparison is the Design House Stockholm Block Table Lamp.

The iconic Block Lamp by Harri Koskinen encloses the light source within cast glass, producing an intentionally simple object that has remained in production since 1997.

Choose Fireplace when you want warmer atmosphere, changing patterns of light and shadow and a more expressive sculptural presence. Choose Block when you prefer a smaller, clearer and more minimal glass lighting object.

For another Scandinavian table lamp where the light itself becomes part of the object, consider the Nuura Miira Table Lamp, which takes a softer and more refined glass-led approach.

The Bolia Reflection Table Lamp offers another Scandinavian alternative, while the AYTM Cycnus Table Lamp provides a more graphic contemporary expression.

Fireplace remains the more unusual choice when the aim is to create an intentionally warm, fire-like centre of light rather than a conventional lamp-and-shade composition.
