What This Category Covers

This is a small selection of six clocks, five from Nomon and one from Design House Stockholm. Every piece is designed to be seen from across a room rather than tucked away, so scale and construction take priority over conventional dial sizes. Most are wall-mounted, and one is built around a visible pendulum mechanism.

These are not mass-market clocks with a battery hidden behind a plastic face. They're designed objects, built to sit alongside a sofa, dining table or staircase as a piece of decor in their own right, and priced accordingly.

Choosing the Right Size and Placement

Because these clocks are meant to read as art on the wall, think about the scale of the wall itself before you think about the clock's face. A large, unbroken wall in a hallway, above a sideboard, or facing a staircase gives an oversized clock room to work without competing with other objects nearby.

Hang the clock at a height where the centre sits roughly at eye level for the room's main sightline, which in a living room is usually somewhat lower than in a hallway. Leave clear space around the piece rather than boxing it in with shelving or framed art, since the strength of these designs comes from negative space as much as the clock face itself.

If the clock has a pendulum, such as the Nomon Period and Comma Pendulum Clock, allow enough depth and swing clearance below it so the mechanism isn't restricted by a nearby table or console.

Materials and Finishes

Nomon's clocks tend to use metal construction with graphic, minimal dial treatments, some using bare hands and markers against an open frame rather than a solid backing. This gives several models a more architectural, sculptural presence than a traditional clock face. The Design House Stockholm Mellow Clock takes a softer, more pared-back approach in keeping with Scandinavian design conventions.

Dust these pieces with a soft, dry cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners on any painted or lacquered surfaces. Keep wall clocks away from direct, prolonged sunlight if the finish includes colour, to prevent fading over time.

Wall Clocks and Pendulum Clocks

The bulk of the range is made up of wall clocks in the conventional sense, hung flat against the wall with a fixed dial. The Nomon Peak Wall Clock is the most accessible entry point in the range by price, while pieces like the Nomon Look Wall Clock sit at the top end and read as a substantial design statement.

The pendulum clocks are a distinct sub-type within the collection, adding visible movement to the design rather than a static face. The Nomon Suspensory Point Wall Clock and the Period and Comma model both fall into this group, and both need a little more planning around placement because of the moving element.

Notable Pieces in the Range

The Nomon Barcelona Wall Clock takes its name from the brand's home city and is one of the more prominent designs in the collection. The Design House Stockholm Mellow Clock is the only non-Nomon piece here and gives buyers a contrasting design language within the same category.

Between the six pieces there's a genuine spread of price and visual weight, from the more restrained Peak model through to the larger Look and Barcelona designs, so it's worth comparing them side by side before deciding on scale.
