Description
A Low Freestanding Bioethanol Fireplace
The Le Feu Dome Ground Low is the lower, more relaxed interpretation of Le Feu’s sculptural freestanding Dome fireplace. Supported on three compact legs, the fire sits naturally alongside sofas, lounge chairs and coffee tables rather than towering above the surrounding furniture.
Part of the wider Le Feu collection at RB12, Ground Low combines a genuine bioethanol flame with a distinctly Scandinavian approach to proportion, material and customisation.
Its freestanding design makes it especially useful in homes where there is no existing fireplace opening or where a conventional chimney installation would dictate too much of the room layout.
Designed to Sit at Sofa Level
Ground Low measures approximately 78 cm high, making it considerably lower than the taller Le Feu Dome configurations.
This lower stance is central to the design. Rather than creating an architectural focal point high within the room, Ground Low brings the flame down into the furniture arrangement where it can sit visually alongside seating and occasional tables.
RB12’s current Le Feu guide describes Ground Low as the most relaxed interpretation of the Dome and particularly well suited to Scandinavian interiors, lower furniture arrangements and rooms where the fireplace should feel integrated rather than dominant.
Compact 52 × 48 cm Footprint
Ground Low has a relatively compact overall footprint:
- Width: approximately 52 cm
- Depth: approximately 48 cm
- Height: approximately 78 cm
- Leg height: approximately 45 cm
- Weight: approximately 22 kg
The combination of a 52 cm width and low 78 cm height makes Ground Low particularly relevant to apartments, smaller living rooms and cosy seating areas where a much taller freestanding fireplace could feel disproportionately large.
A Real Bioethanol Flame
Ground Low burns liquid bioethanol to produce a genuine open flame.
Unlike an electric flame effect, the fire has real movement and produces real warmth. Unlike a conventional wood-burning fireplace, however, the Dome does not require a traditional chimney or flue.
That gives the fireplace substantially more freedom of placement, although it remains a real combustion appliance and must always be used in accordance with Le Feu’s current ventilation, clearance and fuel-handling instructions.
The Sculptural Le Feu Dome
The characteristic Le Feu Dome frames the flame within a rounded elliptical shell rather than trying to reproduce the rectangular opening of a traditional fireplace.
The result allows the fireplace to function almost like another object within the furniture scheme, with the curved body, burner bowl and tripod legs each contributing to the appearance of the piece.
Ground Low emphasises this furniture-like quality more than the taller Dome versions because its supporting legs and flame sit much closer to the rest of the living-room furniture.
Choose Your Dome Finish
RB12 currently offers the outer Dome in:
- Black
- Mocca
- White
Black gives Ground Low the strongest graphic silhouette and makes the flame particularly prominent against the darker shell.
White creates a softer expression within pale or Scandinavian interiors, while Mocca adds a warmer neutral tone that combines naturally with timber furniture and softer earth-coloured upholstery.
Choose the Burner Bowl Finish
The bowl surrounding the burner can be selected independently from the main Dome, giving you the option to keep the fireplace tonal or introduce a contrasting detail around the flame.
Current RB12 options include:
- Black
- Polished Steel
- Rose Gold
- Mocca
A metallic bowl catches and reflects more of the surrounding firelight, while a darker finish allows the flame itself to remain the strongest feature.
Handcrafted Oak or Rose Gold Legs
The three legs are one of the features that give Ground Low its recognisable furniture-like character.
RB12 currently offers:
- Black Oak
- Soap-Treated Oak
- Smoked Oak
- Rose Gold
Soap-Treated Oak creates the lightest Scandinavian expression, while Smoked Oak introduces a warmer and darker timber tone. Black Oak visually reduces the prominence of the tripod beneath a black Dome.
Rose Gold changes the character completely, replacing the natural timber reference with a more decorative metallic support.
A Fireplace for Smaller Living Rooms
Ground Low is particularly easy to understand in a smaller living room where both floor area and visual height matter.
Its compact footprint uses considerably less visual space than a traditional hearth and chimney breast, while the low tripod arrangement prevents the fireplace from becoming an oversized vertical feature.
This makes it especially useful where you want the atmosphere of a genuine flame while keeping the room centred around the sofa and seating arrangement.
A Freestanding Fireplace for Apartments
Ground Low can also be particularly relevant to apartments and properties without a usable chimney.
Because the Dome uses bioethanol rather than wood or mains gas, it does not require a conventional flue or chimney connection.
This does not mean the fireplace can simply be placed anywhere without consideration. Always follow Le Feu’s specified clearances and ensure the room has the ventilation required by the manufacturer’s current user manual.
Ground Low or Dome Ground High?
If you like the warmth of the three-legged Dome but need greater visual height, compare Ground Low with the Le Feu Dome Ground High.
Ground Low stands approximately 78 cm high, while Ground High reaches approximately 106 cm.
Choose Ground Low when you want the fireplace integrated into a relaxed, low seating arrangement. Choose Ground High when you want the same furniture-led idea to have more presence within a larger living space.
Ground Low or Dome Steel High?
The Le Feu Dome Steel High takes the same broader Dome concept in a more architectural direction.
Instead of three short legs, Steel High uses a central pole and floor plate and reaches approximately 135 cm high.
Ground Low feels more like a piece of Scandinavian furniture; Steel High feels more like a freestanding architectural installation. The right choice depends on whether you want the fire to settle into the furniture arrangement or deliberately rise above it.
Ground Low or Dome Sky?
For the strongest architectural expression in the range, the Le Feu Dome Sky removes the floor-standing support entirely and suspends the fireplace from the ceiling.
Sky leaves the floor beneath the Dome clear and turns the fireplace into a much more permanent part of the room architecture.
Ground Low is the better fit when you want the warmer, less architectural character of the tripod design and do not want the fireplace visually connected to the ceiling.
Dome Ground Low or Le Feu Eye?
For another freestanding interpretation of the bioethanol fireplace, compare Ground Low with the Le Feu Eye Black Bio Ethanol Fireplace.
Eye encloses the flame within a more rounded sculptural body intended to be appreciated from several viewpoints. Ground Low has a more open, directional character and places much more emphasis on the relationship between the Dome and its three legs.
Choose Ground Low when Scandinavian furniture references and natural timber are important to the room. Choose Eye when the fireplace itself should feel more like a standalone sculptural object.
Using Bioethanol Safely
Ground Low produces a genuine open flame and should always be treated as a real fireplace rather than a decorative light.
Le Feu’s current user manual specifies that only approved bioethanol should be used and that the burner must be completely cold before fuel is added. The burner should never be filled with more fuel than is intended to be burned in one use, with the manual specifying a maximum of 1.5 litres.
The room must be ventilated during use. The fireplace should also be kept the required distance from walls, furniture and other combustible materials, with children and pets kept safely away from the fire.
Never refill a burning or hot burner. Le Feu instructs users to wait at least 30 minutes after extinguishing the flame before adding more bioethanol.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Always allow the fireplace to cool completely before cleaning.
Le Feu recommends periodically wiping the inside of the Dome with a damp cloth once it has cooled. Powder-coated surfaces should be wiped with a lint-free damp cloth.
Stainless-steel components can be polished with a suitable stainless-steel cleaner, working in the direction of the metal finish to minimise visible marks.
