The Le Feu Dome Steel High gives the familiar Dome fireplace a cleaner, more architectural character. Instead of timber legs, the sculptural fire chamber is raised on a slender steel pole and circular floor plate, creating a tall freestanding silhouette with far less visual weight around the base.

Designed in Denmark, Steel High is particularly effective in open-plan living spaces, dining areas and contemporary interiors where the fireplace needs enough height to hold its own beside larger furniture. Choose Black, Polished Steel or Rose Gold for the pole, then pair it with your preferred Dome finish to either keep the fireplace quiet and monochrome or make the supporting structure a deliberate part of the room.

Fuelled by bioethanol, Steel High produces a genuine open flame without requiring a traditional chimney or flue. Its relatively compact footprint gives far more freedom over placement than a conventional built-in fireplace, while still requiring the ventilation, clearances and safe fuel handling set out in Le Feu’s operating instructions.

Description

A Tall Architectural Bioethanol Fireplace

The Le Feu Dome Steel High takes the recognisable curved Dome fireplace and raises it on a slim central pole and circular floor plate, creating a much more architectural expression than the timber-legged Ground models.

Part of the wider Le Feu fireplace collection at RB12, Steel High is designed for interiors where the flame should have greater vertical presence while the support beneath it remains visually light.

Its combination of curved Dome, slender pedestal and genuine bioethanol flame makes Steel High feel closer to a freestanding design object than a conventional stove or built-in fireplace.

Steel Rather Than Timber Changes the Character Completely

The defining difference between Steel High and the Le Feu Ground models is the support beneath the Dome.

Ground Low and Ground High use three legs and therefore read much more like pieces of Scandinavian furniture. Steel High replaces that tripod with a single slender pole and round floor plate.

The result is cleaner, more vertical and considerably more architectural, making Steel High particularly natural alongside contemporary lighting, metal detailing and open-plan interiors.

A Real Flame Without a Traditional Chimney

Steel High uses liquid bioethanol to create a genuine open flame without requiring the traditional chimney or flue associated with a wood-burning fireplace.

That gives considerably greater freedom when planning the room, particularly in properties without an existing fireplace opening or where a conventional flue installation would be impractical.

It remains a real combustion appliance and must always be installed and operated according to Le Feu’s current instructions, including the manufacturer’s ventilation, clearance and fuel-handling requirements.

The Sculptural Le Feu Dome

The curved Le Feu Dome frames the flame within an elliptical shell rather than trying to imitate the rectangular opening of a conventional fireplace.

This gives the fireplace a recognisable sculptural identity even when it is not lit, allowing it to contribute to the interior in much the same way as a piece of furniture or lighting.

On Steel High, the Dome appears visually suspended above the floor because the support beneath it is reduced to one narrow pole.

Black, Mocca or White Dome

RB12 currently offers the Steel High Dome in:

  • Black
  • Mocca
  • White

Black creates the strongest silhouette and places maximum emphasis on the fire itself. White gives the Dome a lighter visual presence within pale interiors, while Mocca adds a warmer neutral that combines naturally with timber, beige upholstery and earth-toned finishes.

Choose the Pole Finish

The supporting pole is available through RB12 in three finishes:

  • Black
  • Polished Steel
  • Rose Gold

A Black pole visually recedes beneath a dark Dome and creates the most understated version. Polished Steel emphasises the engineering of the pedestal, while Rose Gold introduces a warmer metallic accent that can coordinate with lighting, hardware and other decorative details in the room.

A Compact Floor Plate with Strong Vertical Presence

One of Steel High’s most useful design qualities is the contrast between its relatively contained floor footprint and the height created by the central pedestal.

Rather than spreading across the floor through three separate legs, the support is concentrated into one round plate beneath the fireplace.

This makes Steel High especially effective where the fireplace needs to feel substantial without visually filling the surrounding floor area.

Steel High Dimensions

RB12’s current product specification lists Steel High at:

  • Width: approximately 52 cm
  • Depth: approximately 48 cm
  • Height: approximately 135 cm
  • Weight: approximately 23.8 kg

The 52 × 48 cm body remains relatively compact while the tall pedestal lifts the fire substantially higher than the Ground Low and timber-legged Ground High configurations.

A Fireplace for Open-Plan Living Spaces

Steel High is especially well suited to larger open-plan interiors where a lower fireplace could visually disappear amongst substantial furniture.

The additional height gives the flame presence from further across the room, while the narrow pedestal avoids creating the visual mass of a conventional stove or chimney breast.

This makes the design useful where the fireplace needs to act as a focal point while still allowing the surrounding furniture arrangement to remain relatively open.

Steel High Beside a Dining Area

The raised format can also work particularly well within or beside a dining space, where very low lounge furniture is less relevant and a higher flame can remain visible above chairs and table edges.

Its slim pole also creates less visual competition with dining furniture than a broad traditional fireplace structure.

Always position the fireplace according to Le Feu’s required safety clearances rather than purely according to the furniture layout.

Steel High or Dome Ground High?

For a tall Le Feu fireplace with a warmer furniture-led character, compare Steel High with the Le Feu Dome Ground High.

Ground High uses three oak or Rose Gold legs and stands approximately 106 cm high. Steel High replaces that tripod with a central metal pole and floor plate, creating a taller and more architectural silhouette.

Choose Ground High when natural timber and Scandinavian furniture references suit the interior. Choose Steel High when you want the fireplace to feel cleaner, more vertical and more closely connected to the architecture of the room.

Steel High or Dome Ground Low?

The Le Feu Dome Ground Low sits at the opposite end of the scale.

At approximately 78 cm high, Ground Low places the fire close to sofa and coffee-table height and feels deliberately relaxed and furniture-like.

Choose Ground Low for smaller rooms, apartments and low seating arrangements. Choose Steel High when greater vertical presence and an architectural pedestal better suit the space.

Steel High or Dome Sky?

For an even stronger architectural statement, the Le Feu Dome Sky removes the floor-standing support entirely and suspends the Dome from the ceiling.

Dome Sky leaves the floor clear and makes the fireplace part of the architecture itself. Steel High retains the easier-to-place freestanding format while delivering much of the same vertical emphasis.

Steel High is therefore the more flexible option when you want an architectural look without committing the fireplace to a ceiling-mounted installation.

Steel High or Le Feu Eye?

For a more enclosed and sculptural freestanding fireplace, compare Steel High with the Le Feu Eye Black Bio Ethanol Fireplace.

Eye uses a rounded body and compact legs to create a self-contained fireplace object. Steel High instead emphasises height and negative space around a single narrow pedestal.

Choose Eye when a compact sculptural body is the priority. Choose Steel High when a tall, clean vertical element better suits the architecture of the room.

Using Bioethanol Safely

Steel High produces a genuine open flame and must always be treated as a real fireplace.

Le Feu’s current user manual requires approved bioethanol, sufficient room ventilation and the manufacturer’s specified clearances from walls, furniture and combustible materials.

Never add bioethanol while the fireplace is burning or while the burner remains hot. The current Le Feu manual specifies a maximum fill of 1.5 litres and instructs users to allow the burner to cool before refilling.

Children and pets should be kept safely away from the fireplace during operation, and the fire should remain supervised while lit.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Allow the fireplace to cool completely before cleaning.

Le Feu recommends periodically wiping the inside of the Dome with a damp cloth once cool. Powder-coated surfaces should be cleaned with a lint-free damp cloth.

Stainless-steel components can be polished with a suitable stainless-steel cleaner, working in the direction of the metal finish to avoid visible marking.
