The Bolia Seed Garden Chair brings a softer, more supportive shape to outdoor dining. Its gently curved shell is designed around the body’s natural seated position, while slender stainless-steel legs keep the overall form light and easy to place around a garden table.

Seed was designed by Danish studio Hans Thyge & Co. The wider Seed chair family was developed with comfort and the body’s natural position in mind rather than treating the shell as a purely visual form.
Bolia highlights the seat’s soft curves, slight inclination at the front and flexible back as important parts of the design, creating a chair intended to provide both comfort and lumbar support.
Made for Outdoor Use
The outdoor version of Seed uses a UV-stabilised polypropylene shell and lacquered stainless-steel legs, allowing the familiar Seed form to be used on terraces, patios and in garden dining areas.
A discreet drainage opening is integrated into the seat so that rainwater can run away instead of remaining trapped in the shell after wet weather.
That practical detail is easy to overlook visually, but it is an important distinction between Seed Outdoor and an indoor polypropylene dining chair simply placed outside.
85% Recycled Post-Industrial Polypropylene
Bolia’s current specification lists the Seed Outdoor shell as 85% recycled post-industrial polypropylene and 15% glass fibre.
The glass fibre reinforces the moulded shell, while the high proportion of recycled polypropylene reduces the reliance on virgin plastic within the composition.
This is more precise than describing Seed simply as a “recycled plastic chair”, because the current material specification includes both recycled polypropylene and reinforcing glass fibre.
EU Ecolabel Certified
The Seed chair carries the EU Ecolabel. Bolia states that this certification requires the product to meet strict criteria relating to chemicals, resources and materials across its life cycle.
The certification also considers how the product can be dismantled and recycled, providing a more meaningful environmental credential than relying on broad or unverified sustainability language.

The armless Seed is the most compact version and is particularly useful when several chairs need to sit closely around an outdoor dining table.

With Armrests or Without?
Choose the armless Seed when maximum seating capacity, easier stacking and a more compact footprint are the priority. Its 53 cm width allows more chairs to fit comfortably along a longer dining table.
Choose Seed with armrests when additional side support and a slightly more substantial seating position are more important than fitting the maximum number of chairs around the table.
Mixing the two can also work well: armchairs can be positioned at the ends of a rectangular table while armless Seed chairs run along the sides.
Grey or Black Seed Garden Chair
RB12 currently lists Seed Outdoor in Grey and Black polypropylene, allowing the chair to either sit quietly within a softer outdoor palette or create stronger contrast against timber, stone and planting.
Grey creates the lighter and more understated expression, while Black can give the simple silhouette greater definition around a pale tabletop or lighter terrace surface.
