Description
Scandinavian Restraint Meets Italian Materiality
The Bolia Dive Sofa brings together clean Scandinavian proportions and the richer material expression associated with Italian furniture design. Generous upholstered cushions sit within a visible solid-oak frame, while a full-grain leather band creates a distinctive detail across the back of the sofa.
Part of the wider Bolia collection at RB12, Dive offers a more crafted and material-led alternative to sofas where the structural frame is completely hidden beneath upholstery.
The result feels elegant enough for a considered living room but comfortable enough for everyday use, with generous cushions and a 61 cm seat depth inviting you to settle into the sofa rather than simply perch on it.
Designed by Busetti Garuti Redaelli
Dive was designed by Busetti Garuti Redaelli for Bolia. The collection deliberately draws on both Scandinavian and Italian design traditions, balancing visual restraint with tactile materials and carefully resolved furniture details.
Rather than hiding the construction, Dive allows elements such as the oak frame, tapered legs and leather support band to become part of the aesthetic. This gives the sofa particular strength when positioned away from a wall, where the rear of the furniture remains visible.
A Solid Oak Frame You Can See
One of Dive’s defining features is its exposed solid-oak frame. Instead of allowing upholstery to extend all the way to the floor, the cushions sit above a visible timber structure supported by tapered legs.
This reduces the visual weight of the sofa and creates a clearer separation between the soft upholstery and the harder structural material beneath it.
RB12 currently offers the oak base in Oiled Oak, Dark Oiled Oak and White-Pigmented Oiled Oak, allowing Dive to move from warmer natural timber to lighter or deeper architectural schemes.
Full-Grain Leather Across the Back
A full-grain leather support band forms one of Dive’s most distinctive details. It provides a tactile contrast with the fabric cushions and timber frame while giving the rear of the sofa a deliberately finished appearance.
RB12 currently offers the back detail in Brown, Cognac and Nature full-grain leather, allowing the leather to either blend more quietly with the chosen oak and fabric or create a stronger contrast.
Because this detail remains visible from behind, Dive is particularly effective as a freestanding sofa within larger or open-plan rooms.
2, 2.5 or 3 Seater Dive Sofa
RB12 offers Dive in three linear sofa sizes. All share the same approximate 87 cm depth and 73 cm overall height, with the width increasing according to the number of seats.
- 2 Seater: W180 × D87 × H73 cm
- 2.5 Seater: W215 × D87 × H73 cm
- 3 Seater: W256 × D87 × H73 cm
- Seat depth: 61 cm
- Seat height: 44 cm
- Armrest height: 73 cm
The 180 cm sofa is the easiest to place in more compact rooms, while the 215 cm version creates a useful middle ground between scale and seating capacity. At 256 cm wide, the three-seater has considerably more presence and is better suited to larger living rooms and open-plan interiors.
A Generous 61 cm Seat Depth
Dive has a 61 cm seat depth, giving it a noticeably relaxed seating position without moving into the extremely deep proportions of a low modular lounge sofa.
Combined with the 44 cm seat height, this gives Dive a useful balance between comfort and composure. It remains practical for conversation and everyday sitting while still providing enough depth to settle back into the cushions.
Removable and Changeable Fabric Covers
Bolia designs Dive with removable fabric covers. This gives the sofa an important advantage over upholstery that is permanently fixed to the frame, allowing individual covers to be changed over time if required.
Bolia also offers Dive across a wider library of upholstery fabrics and colours. RB12 currently provides a curated selection through the product options above, making it possible to alter the texture and character of the sofa while retaining the same underlying oak-and-leather construction.
Always follow the care instructions for the exact fabric selected rather than assuming all removable covers can be cleaned in the same way.
Three Materials, One Sofa
Dive is particularly interesting because fabric, oak and full-grain leather are all clearly visible at the same time.
A soft or textured fabric can make the cushions feel more relaxed, while the timber base adds definition and the leather band introduces a richer detail across the rear. Changing any one of those three elements can significantly alter the character of the finished sofa.
This makes Dive particularly suitable for customers who want more material depth than a completely upholstered sofa but still prefer a softer living-room piece rather than an exposed timber lounge design.
A Sofa Designed to Be Seen from Behind
Many sofas are designed primarily from the front and are easiest to place against a wall. Dive is different because the full-grain leather band and oak structure give the rear its own visual identity.
That makes Dive especially useful in open-plan living spaces, where the sofa may be positioned centrally to divide living and dining areas or create a boundary within a larger room.
Rather than exposing an unfinished back, a freestanding Dive allows the leather, timber and upholstery to become visible from several directions.
Handmade in Europe
Bolia lists the current Dive Sofa as handmade in Europe, with production in Poland.
The design is FSC™-certified, and Bolia provides component-level transparency for the wood and other materials used within the sofa.
Dive requires no assembly on arrival, so access through doors, stairs and lifts should be checked carefully against the selected sofa width before ordering — particularly for the 256 cm three-seater.
Designed for Long-Term Use
Bolia places particular emphasis on extending Dive’s useful life through removable covers and components that can be replaced over time if required.
The current sofa is covered by Bolia’s 12-year warranty, while each seat is rated by the manufacturer to a maximum load of approximately 110 kg.
This combination of replaceable upholstery, visible natural materials and long-term warranty support is an important part of the Dive proposition beyond its immediate appearance.
Complete the Bolia Dive Collection
The sofa is part of a wider Dive seating family using the same combination of oak, full-grain leather and removable upholstery.
For the same design language in a smaller format, the Bolia Dive Armchair carries the solid-oak frame, leather back detail and generous upholstery into an individual lounge chair.
Using the armchair alongside the sofa allows the material palette to repeat across a complete seating arrangement without simply adding another identical sofa.
Dive or Elton?
If you like the visible timber craftsmanship of Dive, the Bolia Elton Sofa is another useful comparison.
Both designs use exposed oak to lift the upholstery visually away from the floor, but Dive adds the distinctive full-grain leather support band and a more explicitly Scandinavian-meets-Italian material expression.
Choose Dive when the rear of the sofa and the relationship between fabric, oak and leather are important parts of the room. Consider Elton when you prefer a more traditionally timber-led sofa expression.
Dive or Veneda?
For a softer and more relaxed Bolia sofa, compare Dive with the Bolia Veneda Sofa.
Veneda places greater emphasis on deep lounge comfort and soft upholstery, while Dive has a more structured, material-led appearance created by the exposed oak and leather detailing.
The choice is therefore less about one sofa being better than the other and more about whether you want relaxed upholstered softness or a more crafted, architectural sofa with visible materials.

Care
Dive is designed with removable fabric covers, but cleaning requirements vary according to the exact upholstery selected. Always follow the care instructions supplied for your chosen Bolia fabric rather than applying one cleaning method across every Dive configuration.
The removable-cover construction also allows covers to be replaced over time if required, helping extend the usable life of the sofa without replacing the complete frame.
