Light Through Reflection
The Bolia Reflection Floor Lamp takes a deliberately unconventional approach to illumination by separating the light source from the shade.
Rather than directing light straight into the room, the LED illuminates the broad aluminium surface above it, creating a softer reflected glow and making the interaction between light and shade part of the design itself.
Designed by Asger Risborg Jakobsen
Reflection was designed by Danish designer Asger Risborg Jakobsen, whose approach focuses on reducing an object to its essential combination of function, beauty, character and craftsmanship.
For Reflection, that meant returning to the two fundamental components of a lamp — its light source and shade — and deliberately pulling them apart to create a new relationship between the two.
Warm 2700K LED Light
Reflection uses a warm 2700K LED light source, producing the softer colour temperature typically associated with relaxed living and evening spaces.
Combined with the reflected lighting principle, this warm tone helps create atmosphere around sofas, armchairs and quieter areas of the room without relying on a harsh exposed light source.
732 Lumens of Indirect Illumination
The included LED produces approximately 732 lumens, giving Reflection useful room illumination while maintaining its softer indirect character.
The broad 40 cm shade helps distribute the reflected light across a larger surface rather than concentrating it into a narrow beam.
Dimmable in Predefined Steps
Reflection can be dimmed through predefined brightness levels, allowing the atmosphere to change as the room moves from daytime use into the evening.
Use a brighter setting when more illumination is required, then reduce the intensity later in the day when the lamp becomes part of a softer layered lighting scheme.
A Slender 140.5 cm Silhouette
At approximately 140.5 cm high, Reflection has the height of a substantial floor lamp without the visual weight of a large conventional shade.
The slim supporting stem rises from a compact 22 cm-wide base before meeting the 40 cm shade, creating a graphic vertical line that works particularly well beside seating or against an open wall.
Lacquered Aluminium Construction
The shade, stem and base are all made from lacquered aluminium, keeping the material language consistent from top to bottom.
Aluminium allows the generous circular shade to retain a visually light appearance while providing the reflective surface that is fundamental to the way the lamp produces light.
Black, Grey or Brass
RB12 offers the Reflection Floor Lamp in Black Lacquered Aluminium, Grey Lacquered Aluminium and Brass Lacquered Aluminium.
Black creates the strongest architectural silhouette, Grey provides a softer neutral expression, while Brass introduces warmth and a more decorative metallic quality without changing the simplicity of the form.
Designed for Layered Living-Room Light
Reflection works particularly well as part of a layered lighting scheme, where floor, table, wall and pendant lighting each contribute a different quality of light.
Position it beside a sofa or armchair, use it to illuminate an otherwise dark corner, or allow the circular shade to become a sculptural focal point within an open-plan living space.
A Long-Life LED Light Source
Bolia specifies an operating life of approximately 62,000 hours for the included LED light source.
The light source can be replaced, although Bolia recommends that replacement is carried out by a qualified professional.
