A Sculptural Expression of Solid Oak
The Bolia Plateau Coffee Table is designed around an intentionally simple composition: a circular wooden top resting on a softly sculpted base. Rather than relying on decorative detail, Plateau lets proportion, craftsmanship and the natural grain of the oak define its character.
The solid-oak tabletop is carefully milled to create Plateau’s distinctive rounded edge. This subtle detail softens the silhouette while highlighting the carpentry involved in shaping such a substantial piece of timber.
Designed by Büro Famos
Plateau was designed for Bolia by German design studio Büro Famos. Their approach focuses on creating long-lasting furniture by choosing materials according to their natural strengths and developing forms that remain appealing beyond short-lived trends.
That philosophy is particularly clear in Plateau. The design has been reduced to just two principal elements — the tabletop and base — allowing the shape, timber and construction to provide the visual interest.
Solid Oak and Moulded Veneer
The Plateau tabletop is crafted from solid oak, giving the surface its natural weight, grain and tactile quality. Beneath it, the curved base is formed using moulded oak veneer, allowing the timber to follow the distinctive rounded profile while maintaining a clean, uninterrupted appearance.
The combination allows different woodworking techniques to be used where they are most effective: solid timber provides substance at the surface, while moulded veneer creates the sculptural form of the base.
Hidden Storage Beneath the Tabletop
Plateau’s simplicity conceals a practical detail. Inside the base is a hidden storage compartment, providing space for smaller living-room essentials without adding drawers, handles or visible hardware to the exterior.
The tabletop can also be lifted and used as a tray, giving the design an additional layer of functionality while preserving its minimal appearance when closed.
Three Sizes for Different Living Spaces
The Plateau collection is available in three different proportions, allowing the same design language to work in different areas of the living room.
Ø48 × H52.3cm creates the tallest and most compact version, making it particularly suitable beside a sofa or armchair.
Ø61 × H34.3cm provides a lower, broader surface that works naturally as a conventional coffee table.
Ø74 × H42.3cm offers the most generous tabletop and creates a stronger central presence within larger seating arrangements.
Choosing Your Plateau Finish
The Plateau Coffee Table is available through RB12 in three oak expressions, allowing the same sculptural shape to take on very different characters.
Lacquered Oak retains the natural warmth and variation of the timber for a classic Scandinavian look.
White Pigmented Lacquered Oak gives the table a lighter, softer expression that works beautifully with neutral upholstery and pale interiors.
Black Stained Lacquered Oak places greater emphasis on Plateau’s rounded silhouette, creating a stronger and more architectural presence.

Caring for the Bolia Plateau Coffee Table
Clean the lacquered oak using a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry the surface afterwards. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to moisture.
Use coasters beneath hot or wet objects and wipe spills promptly to help preserve the lacquered finish and natural character of the timber.
