A Side Table Designed to Adapt
The Design House Stockholm Pedestal Table takes a familiar piece of furniture and makes it considerably more flexible. Designed by Matti Klenell, its compact circular top is supported by a series of removable spacers that allow the proportions of the table to change depending on where and how it is being used.
It can sit low beside a sofa, rise to a more practical height alongside an armchair or become a small pedestal for displaying a lamp, vase, plant or favourite object. Instead of being tied to one fixed purpose, Pedestal is designed to move and evolve around the room.
Designed by Matti Klenell
Pedestal was designed by Swedish designer Matti Klenell and introduced by Design House Stockholm in 2023. Klenell’s work frequently explores the relationship between practical function and simple Scandinavian form, and Pedestal is a particularly clear expression of that approach.
The idea grew from the need for a small, portable surface that could adapt to different situations. Rather than designing another fixed-height side table, Klenell created a piece that can be rebuilt and adjusted as its role changes.
Five Solid-Oak Spacers
The defining feature of the Pedestal Table is its set of five removable spacers. Each solid-oak section can be added or removed to alter the height, giving the table a modular quality without introducing complicated mechanisms or unnecessary visual detail.
This makes Pedestal particularly useful in rooms that need to remain flexible. Configure it as a low occasional table one day, then raise it when you need a surface beside a higher chair, bed or workspace.
Solid Oak and Powder-Coated Steel
Pedestal combines polyurethane-lacquered solid oak with powder-coated steel. The oak gives the design its reassuring weight and tactile character, while the metal element beneath the base helps provide stability.
The simple construction keeps the design visually clean and allows the circular top and stacked central column to become the main features. Different finish options allow the same sculptural form to sit comfortably within a wide range of interior schemes.
A Small Table with Several Personalities
Pedestal can work as considerably more than a conventional side table. Place it beside an armchair for coffee and books, use it next to a sofa, position it as a compact laptop surface or give a favourite decorative object its own place within the room.
Its compact diameter keeps the footprint small, so it is easy to introduce into spaces where a conventional side table might feel too large. Its portable scale also makes it easy to move between rooms as different uses arise.

Pedestal is compact enough to work beautifully on its own, but the adjustable height also creates interesting possibilities when several tables are grouped together. Different configurations can form a small landscape of surfaces for displaying objects, plants or lighting.

Caring for the Design House Stockholm Pedestal Table
For everyday cleaning, use a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove dust and light marks from the lacquered oak surface. Dry the table afterwards and avoid allowing moisture to remain on the surface for prolonged periods.
Avoid abrasive cleaning products, harsh chemicals and rough cleaning pads that could damage the lacquered finish or powder-coated steel components. Use coasters or protective pads beneath decorative objects where appropriate to help preserve the surface over time.
